Aesthetic surgery is not merely about changing shape; it is the delicate balance of respecting how a person defines themselves. Every face, every body tells its own story — a good surgeon's work is not to erase that story, but to make it read more clearly.
Every face and every body has its own unique harmony. This harmony — the upward curl of a lip in a smile, a subtle asymmetry in the gaze, a natural curve in a silhouette — defines the person.
Our aim is not to erase this harmony, but to accompany it with a delicate tuning.
Every plan is personal, every technical choice patient-specific, and every result carries a signature. The success of an operation lies not in the result being noticed — but in the patient feeling more at ease with themselves.
Dr. KIRTILLI's residency thesis was prepared at one of Turkey's most established clinics — Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. It is the first study in Turkey to investigate the sexual life of women who have undergone breast reconstruction following breast cancer.
Loss of breast tissue due to cancer, trauma, or burns is not only an anatomical loss but also a psychosexual and social one. This thesis was designed to scientifically investigate the impact of breast reconstruction procedures on patients' sexual quality of life.
Three validated scales were applied via one-on-one interviews with 96 female patients who had undergone breast reconstruction: the BREAST-Q Reconstruction Module, the Sexual Quality of Life Scale for Women, and the Female Sexual Function Index. Data was statistically analysed using SPSS.
Patients who underwent implant-based reconstruction showed significantly higher sexual confidence and sexual well-being than those who received autologous tissue reconstruction (BREAST-Q Sexual module, p<0.05). Breast and outcome satisfaction were similarly improved across both groups. A secondary finding was that single patients showed significantly higher psychosocial well-being than married patients.
Patients who received implant-based breast reconstruction were found to be sexually healthier and more confident. Both techniques equally improved breast and overall outcome satisfaction. This study is the first and largest-scale Turkish research evaluating the impact of breast reconstruction on sexual life using three different validated scales.
